JUST CONCLUDED:

"A Convenient Day". Show 75

Wow! What a spectacle.

Set in the last African country the team will visit on this tour, A Convenient Day was based on the historic happenings of Antipas The Tetrarch as recorded in Mark 6. It is a story that speaks of the beheading of the Baptist

44 men and women from SOD left Lagos to attend the week-long activities, that began with a powerful ministration at the Bethel Church Youth Church. What was meant to be a 20-minute performance ended up becoming a one-hour dance/praise/prophetic moment where over 30 youths gave their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ or recommitted themselves to walk closely with Him.

The story A Convenient Day, marks the birthday of Herod Antipas and the opportunity for Herodias to kill John the Baptist for his open declarations of Truth that condemned her marriage to Antipas.

In many respects, the body of Christ no longer speaks out at wrong. We condone it. Afraid we would be beheaded for sharing views that are direct and scriptural. However, the way and manner in which this entire episode of the Baptists beheading is played out in a series of dance-drama scenes, reminds us that there are those who would seek to "silence the voice of the prophets" in our generation.

The show left the audience super-convicted. Especially since the show concluded with Evangelist Farancois (from Campus Crusade for Christ, Douala) and Mrs Sarah Boulos (SPAN) sharing thoughts on the need for us to know the possible consequences of our selfish ambitions and illicit excesses.

It was artistic and inspirational, anointed and professional. It succeeded in raising an already high standard SOD has set for itself over the fourteen to fifteen years of ministry.

As the evangelist put it: "no church could have gathered these people and they would not have gone to any church. Please pray for us..."

The club is grateful to its friends and partners for supporting the tour including Victoria Fellowship Church, pastor Jide Odusolu, pastor Ayo Otuyalo, Mr. Uyi Omokaro, Mr. Ladi and Mabonks. As well as our friends and faithful members (all over the world) who gave and prayed endlessly for this outing to be a success. We are indeed VERY blessed.

God answers prayer!

Whoosh! comes next in Europe 2012.

DANCING IN THE SON -

APRIL 2010

The Show in Johannesburg

“It was not that she felt unworthy of His love, it was more of how inadequate she felt with herself. ‘Surely the gift and ability to love and be loved must be equal and mutual and perfect?’…she thought” Taken from ‘Beautiful’s Discourse’. Act 3: Dancing in the Son

We are very privileged to be who we are. To have experienced and lived the lives we have lived. You see, everyone in Spirit of David is a testimony. We have lived stories and know that at this very moment, there are lives in South Africa we can connect with and reach out to.

‘Dancing in the Son’ is an original story written by Segun Lawal about a prince who must choose a bride from two eligible virgins. One is called Beautiful, the other Gorgeous. As this two hour show unfolds, we learn the difference in their qualities and how this reflects on all the decisions we make in life and their overall consequence on our future.

Our plan is to spend the last 5 days of April in Johannesburg. Three shows will be staged including a special performance in the Prisons and the University of Wits.

We are presently finalizing plans and collaborations with companies, churches and well-meaning individuals who like you, share a desire to affect lives in a positive and sometimes unorthodox way.

35 members will be trained and prepared for the task ahead. Our mission will be clear and exact to all. We believe you share our enthusiasm to stage a dance-drama of unprecedented influence on our brothers and sisters in that part of the world.

Spirit of David

There are few times in life when we are touched, challenged, inspired and forgiven…all at the same time. Such moments occur in a Spirit of David show when we - the audience- realize we have met with God in the most artistic and unforgettable way possible”

Spirit of David is a gospel dance club. We are a body of people who love God and love dance and have been gifted with the grace to communicate life-changing messages through performances and shows that are unique, professional and anointed.

Since April 1997, Spirit of David has staged sixty-eight shows. A number of which have been staged around Nigeria. However, in 2007 we began taking gospel, dance and theatre around the world!

We visited Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso with a deeply inspiring and intellectual show about life and choices titled “Crash”. About twenty members dug deep to prepare a trip that would be the first of its kind in that country. Not only was it received as a work of art, it was visibly a missionary tool to get people thinking about their lives.

In Accra, Ghana – our next stop – we soon became aware that just like in Burkina Faso, we were acting as ambassadors of Nigeria to other nationalities and peoples. We met with several negative stereotypes of our great country that were revisited as we fellowshipped and danced. The show “Colour and Colourelessness” was a hit. Fresh collaborations were formed and a higher appreciation for our peculiar craft and culture grew.

Last year, Spirit of David visited Mombasa and Nairobi in Kenya with a show titled “The Dreamer”. It was a breathtaking display of diverse dancing and very imaginative dance themes executed perfectly in an age-old message told with a modern twist. Our audiences in both cities loved it and repeatedly demanded we revisit them in the nearest future.

However, our next stop will take us from East Africa to South Africa. In April 2010, Spirit of David will host her 69th show titled “Dancing in the Son” in the famous city of Johannesburg. We invite you to be a part of history.

This show was successfully concluded. Find below some pictures taken at the outreach in the Medium Security Prison, Johannesburg

A comment from Judy Ogana, the Go Down, Nairobi, Kenya....on THE DREAMER

"Dear Segun and the entire "DREAMER' team.

This afternoon, I was looking through the photos that were taken during "The Dreamer' performance at the GoDown.

What an excellent show!

The dancers were truly outstanding, (Joseph was truly a star!!!! and of course Potiphar.... not to mention his wife!... I could go on... and on...)

the casting was professional and very inspiring!

As I am sure you have heard, the audience here was truly touched by the performance - it just left everybody wanting to experience more.

The message was strong - and very timely! That is how God works with His people. Never a season too early or too late.

I cannot say how much we love and appreciate your commitment to see the vision of the tour through.

Thank you all for blessing us so richly!

and for leaving an indelible mark in our hearts and our minds

With best wishes for your future tours!!!!!,

Judy Ogana"

....another comment...

Hi there Segun & Nwando,

What blessing you were to us in Nairobi. We had a swell time. I came with my family and 3 other families too and we had a blast. The idea you are living out is incredible and I would like to congratulating you for allowing God to be glorified in your lives and gifting.

As I intimated after the show, Judy comes to our church. I told our youth pastor about the performance and we would be interested in performing it here with our youth. How would you go around this? We can practice from a script and video footage and have you come in to give the fine touch details before the presentation. How does that sound? We are thinking of doing it in November 2009. Is this doable for you?

Once again thanks for the inspiring performance and do give my regards to all the team.

I’ve attached a picture so that you can remember who you are communicating with.

Kind regards,

Mwaniki Mageria

The Twin Continent Tour is a clarion call from God to his people to go to the nations for Him. A call timeless and yet instant, a call to be heeded and obeyed, a call demanding great sacrifice and even greater humility.

God has through the ages always relied on a people of obedience to carry His message to those who need to hear it. The message never changes, is ever relevant and remains true no matter the medium He chooses to convey himself in. That message is Christ. No more, no less.

Spirit of David is built on the principle of daring to be different for God. We are a people graced with an understanding that life is much more than what we own or do but who we are!

This tour is important. Not only in 'religious' realms but almost as a diplomatic mission to present a Nigeria most countries never get the opportunity to meet. A people friendly and dedicated, God fearing and true. We have discovered this is equally important to God in repairing skewered mindsets and redefining our nation's image.

First spoken about by the CC, Segun Lawal four years ago, the TCT at first sounded like a logical progression to the Twelve State Road Tour, which was successfully completed in 2002.

Upon closer examination, well, it was a different story.

Little did we know how un-ready we were for this journey into the unknown? As the countries came forth, we were compelled, sometimes contrary to our own expectations to look inwards and examine our hearts, motives and desires.

Seemingly unconnected events began to unfold which at that time may have seemed like a distraction but were necessary steps in a journey to this present day. Under these, I would include the ‘aborted’ sunshine project, the building up and establishing of SPAN and the totally awesome DI 2005 trip to Ghana as well as many often overlooked yet crucial happenings and events.

This just has to be said: God is The Architect, The 'Conductor', The Author, The Finisher, The Strategist, The… I could go on..

In all this He is worthy of All Praise.

The first country in the TCT, Burkina Faso held between the 19th to the 24th of February 2007.

The show, a dance drama titled Crash told the story of three unlikely heroes, a set of survivors from a plane crash who find themselves in a village laboring under a 21-year-old curse of barrenness.

The princess however is pregnant and in the ensuing drama, ideologies, faith, fears, ambitions and hearts collide and crash as truth comes to the fore!

The story of Crash depicts the high drama of the heavens and the earth that ensued when Christ was born. I’m in the production and I can tell you this, it will get you thinking. We certainly have begun to see ‘Crash’ and crashes in and around us as God first does IN us what He would desire to do THROUGH us.

After Burkina, Spirit of David visited Ghana with a deep and philosophical production called 'Colour and Colourlessness', in which were all left reflecting on our lives and how we define the things most crucial. a city in Cameroon is GAROUA

South Africa and Kenya will be visited in May/June of 2009 with over 15 members of the club taking the message to the world.

Both shows are classic tales of love and redemption in a cunning generation. Both believe honesty, purity and Truth will always persevere.

Next three countries...

South Africa Scotland Cameroon

We would like to thank all who gave to the tour and deeply appreciate your prayers and support. God bless you and hope you will continue to partner with us as we work towards South Africa.
